Twitter

A few bird doodles that came around because I wanted a drawing to accompany a link to my Twitter feed. I didn't get very far before I began considering giving my abandoned Owls & Mice comic another try. We'll see. One idea feeds another I guess.

You can follow me on Twitter here.

I.F. Contagious

The Illustration Friday topic this week is 'contagious'. One of my favourite things about zombies is that after they're transformed, they're stuck wearing regular clothes.

Around 2236 Pieces of Ticker Tape

This is my entry for Illustration Friday this week. The topic is parade. I'm not sure how it comes across in the scan, but it's a pretty wee one; the pattern is about 6cm x 10cm. The text is my own handwriting font.

Skate 2 Geekout

Watch more videos of Skate 2

For the past while, I've been playing a lot of Skate 2 on the Xbox 360. Once I started diddling around with the replay options, I realised I could probably cobble together a little compilation clip of my sick moves in iMovie. The above is my first attempt. It's a little sloppy, but I'll take it as my (computer generated) skate video editing debut.

I should admit that a lot of those tricks took hours of my life away that would be better spent elsewhere. I did it all for the approval of other Skate geeks on the awesome Goonskate site. The idea of putting together a better one looms large in my head but how many more times can I attempt to jump a little computer man over a pretend pavement?

Picture Dump 01

Like a lot of people, I have a folder on my computer overflowing with miscellaneous saved pictures. It usually just sits there getting bigger and bigger, completely ignored in its purpose of providing inspiration.

I've decided to make a point of browsing though this jumbled mess more often. When I do, I'll pick out 9 pictures that catch my eye and I'll post them here on my site. Perhaps they'll provide me with the inspiration I'm after or perhaps they'll just be saved in a dusty folder by someone else. Click the images for larger versions.

How Children Learn

The reason I've not been updating as regularly as usual is that I've been working away on this here show. How Children Learn is a 2 part joint show between Rue Five and myself. It's set to open in a couple of weeks at The Changing Room gallery in Stirling. Expect small drawings, big drawings and perhaps even a dibble dabble with sculpture. Only if we don't have panic attacks and blow the whole thing though. Here's a blurb:
Also on in the other room is The New Spirit by Julian House of Ghostbox which should be pretty awesome. As always, everyone is welcome to the opening bash for a wee drink. Here are the details:

Recoat Satellite Print Show

Recoat are putting on a second satellite exhibition in Glasgow. This time it's a little print show at the Lansdowne in Kelvinbridge. I don't have all the names but I've seen a big stack of the work and spotted bits and bobs from Elph and Kirsty Whiten in there. Looked like it'll be a good chance to grab a bargain.

Alongside the prints, Amy and Ali will be painting a mural and there will be a wee mojito party on the go. I'll post my own piece after Thursday once the show is open; it's a little limited edition Gocco screenprint. Thanks to Russell and Julie at Analogue for helping me out and letting me use their stuff. Go visit them too.

My Dad for Illustration Friday: 'legendary'

The Illustration Friday topic this week is 'legendary'. I've chosen to draw my dad. He's a quiet, hardworking, occasionally hilarious man. These 4 doodles show roughly how he's looked throughout his life.

Urban Outfitters Exhibition, Glasgow

The awesome Recoat guys have put on a wee satellite exhibition in Urban Outfitters, Glasgow. My little 2 Tree Barks drawing is in there alongside work by folk like Elph and Rue Five. I might pop through for a gander. Here's a photo. my drawing is in the smaller dark frame:

All work is for sale, contact Recoat for more details: 01413410069 or email info@recoatdesign.com. Urban Outfitters is on Buchanan St. and the wee gallery space is on the weird mezzanine bar thing. Have a look while you're buying a new hat.

2 Lost Scarves

Argh! In the past few weeks I've went and lost my 2 favourite scarves. Actually, 'lost' is being nice, as I suspect they may have been stolen. If I see anyone around town wearing either of these there'll be trouble, that's for sure.

The first one I lost, was an old brown scarf that was my dad's. It was awesome. I lost it somewhere in Stirling after the opening of Graham Fagen's show at the Changing Room. My main suspicion is that it was left amongst a big pile of bags & jackets in Nicky-Tams and that some chancer liked it and picked it up. However, we were also in the Darnley and the Tolbooth that night so who knows. I moaned about it all the way home.

The second was a surprise present from Alex, my girlfriend. She'd spotted it in a wee shop in Glasgow and reckoned I'd like it. I did, very much. It was left on a chair in the restaurant area of the MacRobert Arts Centre and seemed to vanish within the 10 mins it took me call them once I realised it was gone. (you get very good food that's cheaper than anywhere up there by the way)

Ah well. I'll keep checking around. If you spot either of these scarves, or anything similar, let me know. If you notice someone wearing one, punch them in the nose and steal it back. Thanks.

Let's Watch Men

I caught Watchmen last night. Having not read the comic, I didn't have too much invested in it. I decided to avoid reading any reviews or backstory beforehand anyway. Sometimes it's nice to see something with a completely open mind.

What did I think? Well, I wanted to like it but I wasn't too impressed. I'm sure the internet doesn't need another big rant about the silly thing, so I'll limit my 'review' to some odds and ends. I just wanted an excuse to draw that ink blot.

1. It's really, really, really long.
2. It's pretty boring.
3. It's a mess.
4. Dr Manhattan looks / is rubbish.
5. Actually, most of the cgi looks rubbish.
6. The make-up too.
7. I loved Rorschach though, he's really well cast.
8. The opening titles were ace.
9. Blue willy.

I won't even touch on the plot, as after reading some stuff I understand the whole thing has been fairly poorly translated to the screen. However for someone with no prior knowledge of the source, boy does it feel thin. I will give it this though; it's interested me enough to read the book.

Houses Should Have Long Legs...

I just realised that I never posted any images of my Tiny Showcase print. It was released last June and, much to my delight, sold out. I've never actually seen the thing in real life, so I can only go by these images from the T.S. site to get an idea of how it looks.

The image was from a set of drawings from my Analogue show titled Houses Should Have Long Legs. The rest of the captions are a little hard to make out from these photos but they read: Houses should have long legs / then you could live anywhere you want / and go out to sea when you get fed up.

Tiny Showcase produced a large letterpress print and a share of the sales was donated through them to Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland, for helping my Gran. Thanks Tiny Showcase! Have a look if you haven't already.

Wind Man

'Breezy' is the Illustration Friday topic this week, so that's an excuse to post this drawing. It was sent off to Zurich a little while ago and I've never seen it since. Maybe it blew away.
