A 5th!

Apologies if this is getting tedious for anyone, but I've started now so I might as well post them all. This arrived yesterday, making it the 5th anonymous letter I've received in the last few weeks.

The envelope is similar to the others, but has "18.21.5 CINQ" added to the back. There is also a little bit of type stuck to the glue, but it's pretty hard to read. Inside is a page from the Bible, specifically from Revelation. Two of the verses from chapter 21 have been blacked out. They would be Revelation 21:6 and Revelation 21:7 which read:

(6) He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.

(7) He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

Ok, now that doesn't mean much to me. As usual I ignore any kind of spirituality and immediately think of films and stuff. I've been told those verses are possibly connected to The Matrix and also to the rapper 50-Cent but I'm not really a fan of either, so who knows? Google also doesn't really go anywhere that isn't huge big Christian sites and I don't have the patience to look through any of those.

Should I fear for my life? Is Bible John after me? Probably not. I'm guessing it's more likely someone just thinks the verses sound cool, like the Pulp Fiction Ezekiel bit. The letters are getting weirder though. The other side of the page has stuff about Satan's Doom too. Metal!

A 4th Anonymous Letter

This is the 4th anonymous letter I've received. It arrived last Thursday, shortly after I posted about letter number 3.

This one again spells my name wrong, has the stamp on the wrong side and has a little x on the back. Inside is a shredded receipt which I've taped together for the photo above (I actually lost one of the strips, but it's not that important). The whole top has been removed, so I've still no clue as to where these things are coming from. I've been told it's 100% from a Sainsbury's though.

The prices (for stuff like Maltesers, peanuts, Carlsberg etc) are in pounds and it's dated 21st July, so that's the overseas thing pretty much discounted. Any ideas?

Letter 3 Update

Ok, I feel like a bit of an idiot for missing this, but the blank post-it note that arrived in one of the mysterious letters the other day turned out not to be blank at all. I was showing it to my friend Fergi when he noticed that there was some imprinted writing on there, left over from the post-it above. With a little bit of Lebowski-style pencil rubbing we discovered what it said:

David's father has three sons: Snap, Krackel and _____ ?

That doesn't really help much, but at least we found it. The answer is of course, David.

Right, I think I'm going to try to have another week of posting, well, excluding Monday, since I missed that already. There's even more letter news to follow today and I guess I better post some drawings soon eh?

A Third Letter

That makes it 3 strange "Polish" letters I've received in the post. This one is the most cryptic yet. The envelope once again spells my name wrong "Mr David Gallety" and has a UK stamp, but a Polish post-mark. The only other marking is a small cross on the back corner (pictured).

Inside is a blank post-it note.

If you've no idea what I'm talking about, info on the other prank-mail I've been getting is here: letter 1 and letter 2. The kinda-boring plot thickens!

Sketchbook Sock-Monkeys

I've not I'd uploaded any sketchbook stuff for a while, so I thought I'd fire up a couple of scans. These are pretty old doodles from when I was doing a bit of work for the Knitting & Crochet Bee at the Tolbooth in Stirling. The sock-monkey thing never really went anywhere but who cares? Not me.

Another Letter

The letter mystery continues! I received a second letter from the (apparently) Polish anonymous letter-senders last week. This one's a little more intriguing than the last. I've decided I don't really have a clue anymore about who's responsible, a few initial suspects have been checked off the list.

Anyway, this time the envelope is decorated with a Polish phrase, "Dołącz do nas" and includes only a single sheet of A4 paper. On one side of this sheet is the phrase "Przetłumacz to" and a small "x", on the other, "Chce mi się siusiu". Now, my Polish is a little rusty so I've found a site HERE that handily includes each of these translations:

> Dołącz do nas: "Join us"
> Przetłumacz to: "Translate it"
> Chce mi się siusiu: "I need to pee"

Now then, it suddenly looks like we're not dealing with a genuine Polish speaker. These look like stock phrases, possibly from the same site I found. "Join us" and "translate it" are pretty mysterious, but "I need to pee" again makes me question the sender's sense of humour.

The envelope spells my name wrong, "Mr David Gallety", has the (British) stamp on the wrong side and has a Glasgow sorting office stamp on it. There are a couple of fairly authentic looking Polish post-marks on there too, so I guess it could've still come from overseas? I don't really know how mail works. I hope I receive another one though.

As before, if anyone would like to send me anything, CONTACT me and I'll give you my address. I already got a great wee letter from someone the last time which I'll write about shortly.

I'm Changing The Layout

Hello, just a note that I'm changing the layout of this site a little. Nothing drastic, mainly just another column on the right hand side so I can get a little more info up. Because it can be a little fiddly, the blog might go wonky as I play about with it.

If any major display issues pop up for you, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know. I can't check all browsers and stuff, so I dunno how it looks for Windows folks. Cheers. Oh, and I've a good few posts to put up today. That's exciting isn't it?

A Strange Letter

I was going to write about something else, but I just checked the post and discovered an odd letter that I should maybe mention (or probably shouldn't).

Lying by the door was a beautifully decorated envelope, adorned with a mustachioed, smoking hitch-hiker, a tiny car, a finger, a lamp-post and some other odds and ends. Inside there is a piece of cardboard with "E" and "N" scribbled on it several times and a book of coupons for Subway. Fantastic. The word "Polski" on the dude's jumper gives me a pretty good idea about who's responsible, but no clues as to their motive. I dunno, is it even funny?

If anyone else would like to send me something, just drop me an email and I'll give you my address; I've painted it out of the photo. I'm away to Subway.

Dark Horses at Recoat

If you are in or around Glasgow this Friday (4th July!), go along to Recoat near Kelvinbridge and check out the opening of their new show, Dark Horses. The show features Anna Peaker, Margarita Louca & Kitty Clark and is curated by Emma Balkind.

I've worked with Recoat before, I also know and have worked with Emma and... tenuous one this... I am currently in a show with Anna (see below), so I guess I've kinda worked with her too. All that means I had better go along eh? Check Emma's blog or the Recoat blog for more info. Looks like it'll be good.
